Yard-Cala: DIY Family Outdoor Strategy Game
Yard-Cala
Yard-Cala is A Ring-Toss Game of Strategy and Sequences
Collect as many rings as possible on your scoring peg by tossing them from ring to ring across the field. Unlike many outdoor games, Yard-Cala forces you to change targets and tactics, and rewards strategic thinking. But at the end of the day, it's all about stringing together tosses. Can you be accurate enough to string together multiple turns, or will you choke and leave an opening for your opponent?
2 Players or 2 Teams // Plays in under 30 minutes.
Any Easy DIY Build
All that's required is available at your local hardware store: wooden dowels and some plastic tubing. The specific list of supplies is in the download, complete with links to items at Home Depot and Lowes.
Easy Set Up and Tear Down
Set up is as easy as pushing the stakes into the ground, either by just stepping out the measurements or using an optional measuring rope. Either way you'll be ready to play in just a couple minutes.
Light and Compact
Since the components are just a handful of dowels and some light, plastic rings, it's easy to toss in a bag and take with you to a park or friend's house.
Story of the Game
This game was inspired by.... you guessed it, Mancala. At its core, Mancala is about efficiently stringing together as many moves as possible and not leaving easy points for your opponent. And that's what Yard-Cala is all about. As long as you keep making tosses, your turn continues. But when you choke, your turn is up, and you had better not have left easy targets for your opponent.
I love making family, light-strategy games, and it's even better when I get to do it outside. Find more of my games at circlecanoegames.com
